Make hardware connections (connect source devices to inputs, connect display devices to outputs, make network connections, connect power).
When using SMP 300 Series devices, Extron recommends connecting presentation sources to Channel A and speaker camera sources to Channel B. Channel A (inputs 1 and 2) is optimized for full range sources such as PCs and provides a loop-through HDMI output. See the SMP 300 Series User Guide for more details.
Name inputs. While not required, using the embedded Web pages to rename the inputs allows device administrators to more easily troubleshoot connections as needed.
For more detailed help on using the embedded web pages for your device, click the icon in the upper-right corner of the embedded web pages for your device to access its Help File.
- Configure default recording file names. Using the front panel menu, commands, or the embedded Web pages for the devices, select the options the recording capture device will use for naming ad-hoc recording files if a name is not specified at the time of recording. Note the chosen file name parameters.
Upload a CA Root Certficate (cacert.pem) file into the SMP device
certsfolder. See Technical Note - Calendar Import with HTTPS for more details.
If desired, disable the
Limit Recording Sizeoption in the system settings for default recording media.
If you deselect (disable) the
Limit Recording Sizecheckbox, the size limit function is disabled, and the entire event is recorded to single video file (or two video files when Dual Recording is enabled).
Limit Recording Sizefeature is enabled, during recording each time a recording file reaches the specified size, the file is saved and the SMP creates a new file (of up to the specified size) for the next portion of the recording, and so on until the recording event ends or the SMP runs out of storage space. The SMP device must have its Entwine EMP publication settings set with
Multi-File Ingestoptions enabled for all recording components to be properly uploaded to Entwine EMP.
Configure default recording upload (publishing) location. Set the capture agent to publish to your Entwine system. All recording devices must use the same server location.
In this case "publish" means that the capture agent uploads the recording file or files to the Entwine EMP system. This is different from the Entwine EMP system publishing the recording packages to a video portal (such as Entwine VideoLounge, or an LMS system) after editing, updating, and processing the recording.
Prior to configuring the capture agent, write down the Entwine system security digest user name and account password, and the base IP address of the Entwine system in the form of the server IP address or fully qualified domain name and port number.
The security digest credentials and public URL of Entwine are provided by Extron support staff. These credentials are NOT the same as the administrator credentials.
- If using an SMP 300 Series device, in the SMP embedded web page, select
Scheduled Events > Publish Settings, and select the
Ingest into Entwine Serverradio button (only available on devices with newer firmware) within the Active Profiles panel. If using an SMP 111 or StudioStation 100 device, the equivalent setting can be located under
Recorded Events > Publish Settings.
- Select the
Entwine Ingesttab (for devices with newer firmware) within the
Publishing Destination Configurationpanel.
Follow the detailed configuration instructions in your device's Help File (accessible within the subtopic on configuring the unit to publish to an Entwine server. Set up all the non-advanced settings within the
Entwine EMPtab (for devices with newer firmware).
It is important to correctly associate your connected source devices with an appropriate "Flavor" content. On a dual-channel device such as the SMP 352, if presentation source devices will be connected to Channel A, then the "Track Flavor A" should be set to presentation/source, and "Track Flavor B" set to presenter/source. For single-channel devices or when making composited recordings, the Track Flavor can be set to presenter/source. Contact Extron Support for further assistance selecting appropriate flavors for your device..
Test the connection to the Entwine system using the
Test This Serverbutton. If the test is successful, the location (capture agent name) of the SMP should appear in the list of capture agents (which you can view by selecting Main Menu > Locations ) in the Entwine EMP user interface. If it does not, adjust the settings in the capture agent configuration and retest the connection.
Note On SMP devices that support scheduling, if the user selects "Centralized Schedule as Entwine EMP" then the Active publishing destination defaults to "Ingest into Entwine EMP" and all other radio buttons become disabled.
Enable scheduling. If your device supports scheduling, set the appropriate
Active Schedule Source. If scheduling using an Entwine EMP server, some settings are automatically carried over from your Entwine EMP publishing settings.
Set the correct time and timezone. In the SMP embedded web page, select
Configuration > System Settings > Date and Timeto set the time for your device. Extron recommends using an NTP server to ensure all your SMP servers have the same time as your Entwine EMP server.
Note If your SMP time is set incorrectly, scheduled recordings will not start on time, and ad hoc (unscheduled) recordings will have the wrong time reported to Entwine EMP.
Set the default encoding settings. The SMP device will load its default encoding preset when starting recordings scheduled from Entwine EMP. In the SMP embedded web page, go to
Configuration > Encoding & Layoutto change your encoding settings, save them to an encoding preset, and set your default encoding preset. If using an SMP 300-series in composited mode, select a default layout as well.
